"Would you rather?" gets a conversation going faster than plenty of far more complicated ideas. The rule couldn't be simpler: you give someone two options and they have to pick one, even if both are absurd, awkward or equally tempting. And it's in that choice, and especially in explaining it, that the fun happens.

How to play Would You Rather
It doesn't get much simpler:
- One person reads a question starting with "Would you rather...?" with two options.
- The chosen player (or everyone in turn) picks one of them.
- The best part: the player explains their choice. That's usually where the biggest laughs and debates come from.
- You can go round the circle or point at the next person, and in the party version add a rule that anyone who won't answer takes a sip or does a small forfeit. There's no winner - the game goes on as long as you're having fun and have dilemmas left.
Warm-up questions - light and fun
Good for the start, while the group is still warming up.

Build it up. Start with light, funny questions and save the tough dilemmas for later, once the conversation is flowing.
Match it to the occasion. At a house party go for funny and absurd, on a date night for the couples questions, and when you're in the mood to debate, pull out the tough dilemmas.

How many players do you need? Two or more. It works just as well as a couple as in a bigger group at a house party, where every question sparks a debate.
Is Would You Rather only for adults? No - with the light and funny questions it works for any age. Only the optional party element with alcohol is for adults.
Can you play without alcohol? Of course. It's a game built on choices and conversation, and the party element is completely optional.
